A high-level delegation headed by Lieutenant General/ Mohamed Farid, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces participated in the meeting of the Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Five African sahel Community (G5) and representatives of the European donor countries which was hosted by Cairo from February 9 to 11.
The activities of the meeting started by congratulating the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces for the success of the thirty-third African Summit, which was held in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa headed by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic and the President of the African Union.
The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces indicated that the summit was positive, as Egypt won a Peace and Security Council membership. a number of issues of great importance to the African continent were discussed foremost of which is the Libyan crisis in order to preserves the rights of the brotherly Libyan people as well as President Sisi's initiative to prepare Egypt fully to host An African summit to discuss the establishment of an African force to combat terrorism in Africa, stressing that the Armed Forces are moving and achieving the strategy of the Egyptian state in its role supporting all African issues.
During the meeting, the security situation in the Sahel region was discussed and ways to enhance military cooperation as well as continuous coordination in issues of common concern. The Egyptian vision was also presented to support the capabilities of the five African Sahel states, and a proposal was also discussed to train cadres from those countries in the Arab Republic of Egypt in the field of combating terrorism and promoting Security and military relations between the Egyptian side and the five African Sahel states.
Lt. General/ Mohamed Farid, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, conveyed the greetings and appreciation of President/ Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and the greetings and appreciation of General Mohamed Zaki, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of Defense and Military Production to the attendees.
The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces during the meeting stressed on the need for continuous training and qualification to the forces of the five Sahel states (G5) in order to face the security threats resulting from extremist groups in the Sahel countries which is crossing all border, explaining the need to encourage development initiatives in marginalized areas in the five Sahel countries to support the stability of the region and prevent Extremist groups recruit new elements.
This comes in the framework of the need to exchange experiences and expertise in the fields of security and defense to achieve stability in this vital region of the African continent.
