The FREMM Bergamini frigate "Bernice" arrived at Alexandria Naval Base to join th Egyptian Naval Forces. Bernice is built by the Italian company (Fincantieri) according to the latest armament systems and boosted combat efficiency.
Bernice is the second frigate to join the Egyptian Navy, the first frigate is named Galala, as both were contracted between Egypt and Italy. The new frigate possess a wealth of advanced technical specifications and modern armament systems, enabling it to carry out all combat missions in the deep sea, and a range of 6000 nautical miles.
Bernice, due to its capacities and powers, is a remarkable technological addition to the Egyptian Navy and shall safeguard the borders, shipping routes, and the vast natural resources in both the Mediterranean and the Red Seas, along with supporting the land forces in their offensive or defensive operations.
The specialized and technical crews working onboard of Bernice were prepared and qualified in a record time, through a synchronized training program that was implemented in two phases in Egypt and Italy.
Lieutenant General Ahmed Khaled, Commander of the Navy, during the ship commissioning, delivered a speech in which he conveyed the greetings and appreciation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and that of General Mohamed Zaki, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of Defense and Military Production, to the frigate's crew for their distinguished and professional levels they have reached during the preparation period.
The Egyptian Navy Commander also highlighted the keenness of the General Command of the Armed Forces to develop and modernize the Egyptian naval fleet in order to boost the combat capabilities and efficacy, indicating that the new frigate shall amplify the Egyptian deterrence, enforce the security and stability in the region, protect the peace, safeguard the maritime navigational routes in light of the hostilities and challenges the region is facing.
Several Armed Forces senior commanders along with senior navy commanders, the Italian military attaché in Cairo, Egyptian navy cadets, and students from Alexandria University attended Bernice commissioning ceremony.
